I really enjoy Change. I love the excitement and energy that is created when there is a prospect of new things on the horizon. I love the feeling when the plans you have made unfold and you get to see what actually happened. I do not live very well with unknowns around me, so knowing what happened and reacting to what is at hand at a given time, is where I do best.
However, it always surprises me when change occurs and you are left to deal with where the pieces fell. I am never quite prepared for the feelings I have at that moment. And, it is the little things that really start to wear on me. Like where should I put the toothpaste and toothbrush? Which drawer is most convenient for your socks to go in? What do you watch at 11:30 after friends is over and you do not have cable to watch Frasier? Italo and I have spent the last 2 1/2 years of marriage getting into a routine, and now that routine is different. Annabelle and I have spent the last year getting into a routine and now that routine is different. In the end, we will get into a grove and it will all feel comfortable again, but waiting until you like where you put the toothpaste and socks is exhausting! I am always running around in circles trying to figure out where things are.
What is most remarkable about change is that without it, you never really take the time to ask yourself where you like your socks! You just keep doing the same thing you have always done and accept the good with the bad. As Italo would say, you put yourself on cruise control and just go. There is a lot to be said for the discomfort that is associated with change, and as for me and my house, I am excited to see where our new routines takes us!
